David Kiger
Director of Libraries and Theological Librarian
Dr. David Kiger is the Director of Libraries and Theological Librarian at Milligan University. In his role, he oversees the operations of library locations, the library website, and its services, ensuring access to the best possible resources for research and learning. As Theological Librarian, he focuses on aligning the seminary library’s resources and services with the outcomes of seminary teaching, learning, and formation.
Dr. Kiger is a scholar of the Bible and the early church, with a particular expertise in early Syriac Christianity and the thought of Ephrem the Syrian. His academic interests extend to the theological resources of the church from the first 700 years of Christian history, a period that inspires him with its theological depth and tenacity. He has contributed to scholarship through publications such as “The Physical Canon: Its Formation and Depiction in Late Roman and Medieval Christianity” (Atla Proceedings, 2022).
Dr. Kiger actively participates in professional organizations, serving on committees within the Bowen Central Library of Appalachia and Atla (formerly the American Theological Library Association). He finds great fulfillment in the intersection of theology and librarianship, as well as in fostering intellectual and spiritual growth in his community.
Deeply drawn to the beauty of the Christian faith, Dr. Kiger sees this beauty reflected in the kenotic self-giving love of God and in the transformative study of Scripture within the church community. At Milligan, he values the opportunity to love God with his mind and share that passion with others.
