Student Government Association


Mission 

The PURPOSE of SGA is to build strong community by encouraging and uplifting the student body. Through communication, campus involvement, and community outreach, Student Government seeks to serve God and build Milligan College into a spiritual powerhouse so that we leave behind a lasting legacy.

We, the students of Milligan College:

  • Recognize in full the responsibilities bestowed upon us by the President of the College under the authority of the Board of Trustees;
  • Formulate and execute a student government whose duties and liberties shall be determined by the above parties who entrust in this student organization the authority to perform their necessary actions;
  • Represent our constituents, to whom this body shall regularly report, in order to stimulate communication and to participate in the determination of College procedures;
  • Create and maintain attitudes conducive to academic advancement, to create and maintain a spiritual environment, to promote a well-balanced campus social life, and to develop a greater spirit of progressive citizenship;

Executive Team

PRESIDENT: Jenee Boston

I am Jenee Boston and I am the student body President this year. Originally from Johnson City, I came to Milligan as a Goah Scholar. I am an English Major with minors in Humanities and Women and Women and Gender Studies. This is my fourth year in SGA, and I am both excited and committed to speak and induct change on behalf of the student body of Milligan College.

VICE PRESIDENT: MASON GREAR

My name is Mason Grear. I’m excited to serve the Milligan student body as Vice President this year. I’m a senior business management and finance major and a member of the men’s tennis team. I’ve served on SGA since transferring to Milligan, first as a non-voting member and last year as a junior male representative. Hey everyone! My name is Alex Kelley. I am a junior nursing major. I want to be a pediatric nurse and I am also interested in travel nursing. This is my second year in SGA. Last year I was part of the senate as a female sophomore representative. I am super excited to serve as the SGA secretary this year! I’m Bryan Lay and I am the Parliamentarian for this year. I am from Mountain City, and this is my second year here at Milligan. Before coming to Milligan I originally attended Northeast State Community College for two years. I am currently a Junior Political Science major, and this makes my second year as a member of SGA. Last year I was a Non-voting member of the Senate and am honored to be serving the students of Milligan College on the Executive Committee.

Advisors

STAFF ADVISOR

JASON ONKS

I am the staff advisor for Milligan’s Student Government Association, director of campus activities, and the designated advisor for campus clubs. I earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering technology with an emphasis in construction management from ETSU, as well as an MBA from Milligan. I served as the executive director of Buffalo Mountain Camp and Retreat for eight years prior to Milligan. Building community on campus is a critical component of my work because I love the students and am constantly looking for ways to bring them together to fellowship and build meaningful realationships. I am passionate about making the campus better for students and enriching every individual’s experience at Milligan College.

FACULTY ADVISOR

DR. AMY EDMONDS

I am the faculty advisor for Milligan’s Student Government Association. I graduated with a B.A. from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2003 and graduated from Baylor University with M.A. in International Relations and a Ph.D. in Political Science in 2010. A native Californian, I have lived in Costa Rica, Venezuela, England, and the Netherlands, and traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Europe. I joined the faculty of Milligan College in 2012 and was designated as a Co-Director of the Milligan Honors Program in 2014.

Advertisement Committee

  • Roles:
    • Increase Publicity
    • Advertising/branding SGA, which includes operating social media accounts
    • Maintain and weekly update the SGA website
    • Make/distribute all flyers
    • Work with PR/Stampede to develop stories

Service/Spiritual Life Committee

  • Chair: Izzy Siegel
  • Members: Bryan, Megan, Brianna, Whit
  • Roles:
    • Be a moral conscience for SGA
    • Organize community service projects
    • Coordinate and meet with the Campus Minister at least twice a semester
    • Chairman will delegate devotional responsibilities
    • Lead SGA in sending flowers, gifts, cards, etc. in the events of hardships and joyous occasions among the Milligan Community

Student Concerns Committee

  • Chair: Cara Blanton
  • Members: Dalton, Moses, Ronan, Logan, Cara, Austin
  • Roles:
    • Write and submit proposals to appropriate persons
    • Read questions in anonymous question box
    • Chairman will receive and delegate suggestions from the SGA website and report to senate and executives each meeting

Student Events Committee

  • Chair:

  • Roles:
    • Plan at least one academic campus event during the Fall semester
    • Plan Mr. Buff and Spring Formal
    • Coordinate sign-ups
    • Gather and purchase necessary supplies for events
    • Collaborate with other clubs on campus and their events

Meeting Time

We meet every Thursday (during the regular academic year) at 9 pm in the SGA Conference Room in McMahan Student Center (The SUB). Our meetings are open to the entire student body.
