The Student Ministry major prepares people to lead in ministering to and with young people in the local church and various parachurch ministries such as campus ministry, camps, youth organizations, evangelism efforts, and much more. Students are prepared to:

  • Stay abreast of current changes in youth culture and communicate effectively through all those changes
  • Serve in a leadership role of ministry in the church
  • Function as part of a team/staff relationship
  • Interpret Christian scripture responsibly
  • Identify and critically analyze appropriate sources in academic research
  • Understand and assess contemporary church beliefs and practices in light of church history
  • Reflect theologically on contemporary culture and discern the challenges and opportunities for the church to embody a faithful presence within that culture
  • Approach student ministry in ways that reflect sound theological, philosophical, cultural, and practical understandings of ministry
  • Teach effectively
  • Develop the personal and spiritual maturity necessary for student ministry
  • Be well-equipped to pursue seminary or graduate education
