Contract for Housing Contract for Housing Through its residence halls, Milligan University seeks to provide an educational environment conducive to the learning process. Milligan is dedicated to providing programs and services that meet the student’s physical, social, spiritual, and educational needs. Each full-time student is required to live on campus with the exception of those who meet the criteria stated in the Student Handbook. With this in mind, the University and the Student have agreed to the terms and conditions of the following contracts.Duration of contract:* Fall and Spring Semesters Fall Semester Spring Semester Academic Year*2023-24Occupancy of the residence hall room will be for the above period of time. It will extend from the announced opening day of the residence halls until 5pm of the day following the last day of the students’ final exams. Exceptions will be stated recesses of the University such as holiday closings. Occupancy of the residence hall room between semesters must have prior approval of the Housing Office. When approved, such occupancy of the residence hall will be at additional cost. For graduating seniors, occupancy of the residence hall may be extended until after the graduation ceremony.Termination of Contract by the University This contract shall terminate at the discretion of the Housing Office in the event of any of the following: The premises are destroyed, or in the opinion of the Housing Office, unsuitable for occupancy for any reason. The student fails to fulfill financial obligations specified in this contract, if the student violates any of the terms of this contract or published University policy, or if the student loses statue as an enrolled student for any reason. In such circumstances, the student will be given 24 hours to vacate the premises. Other extenuating circumstances whereby the student is given (30) days to notice in writing by the Housing Office. Payment of Rent Payment for the particular housing to which a student has been assigned is due on the semester basis, at or prior to registration. Rates for the year are published annually in the Milligan University catalog. Refund Policies A pro-rated refund will be made if a student is forced to move out of the residence hall due to personal illness (confirmed in writing by a licensed physician) OR at the request of the University for other than disciplinary reasons (i.e. Marriage, academic suspension). A percentage refund will be made if the student is forces to move out of the residence hall due to withdrawal from the University prior to the thirtieth day of the semester (see catalog for percentages). No Refund of rent will be made if the student moves out of the residence hall for disciplinary reasons. Use of Facilities Standards. The student will exercise reasonable care for and maintain acceptable standards of cleanliness in the assigned residence hall room and adjoining bathroom. Housing Rules and Regulations. The student will abide by all rules and regulations pertaining to residency in University housing as set forth in the Student Handbook. Conduct. The student will abide by the Responsibilities of Community Life as set forth in the Student Handbook. Damage. The student is responsible for the assigned room and its contents and will be charged for any and all damage occurring during the term of occupancy. Students who damage University property through negligence or willful actions will be financially liable and subject to disciplinary action. If the identity of the person responsible for damage to University property in public areas cannot be ascertained, the cost of repairs or replacement may be prorated by the Housing Office among all or any portion of the residents of the hall. Liability Property. Milligan University will be held harmless from any suit, action at law, or other claim whatsoever resulting from or arising out of damage or theft of property while the student is an occupant of the residence hall under this contract. Personal Injury. The University will not be liable for any injuries which occur in the residence halls or surrounding grounds except where such injury is due to the negligence of the University or its agents. Disruption of Service. The University will not be liable for the disruption in service which are beyond control and which are restored within a reasonable period of time. Assignments. The University reserves all rights pertaining to the assignment or reassignment of residence hall space. Room Entry. The University reserves the right for authorized University personnel to enter the student’s room for any purpose connected with the maintenance, housekeeping, and management of the facilities or for any other purpose reasonably connected with the interest of the University. The University requires that all residential students report to their Resident Assistant (RA) or Resident Director (RD) whenever they are to be away from their housing unit overnight. This report must include their destination and expected time of return. The purpose is to help assure the safety of students by having knowledge of their whereabouts. In case of a missing person or potential missing person, the University will make every effort to contact the person directly. If the University is unable to contact the person and no other individuals on campus have knowledge or communication with the person then the University will contact the parents/guardian/family of the suspected missing person within 24 hours of the University’s determination that the student is deemed missing. The University will then work directly with the family and/or local authorities in efforts to locate the student.
