Church Administrative Assistant

The Church Administrative Assistant will work closely with the rest of the church staff to support the congregation through communication, administration, and welcome. This is a 20-hr/week position.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent congregational support by answering phone calls and responding to inquiries in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Perform various administrative tasks such as maintaining church calendar, data entry, and maintaining office supplies.
  • Utilize computer skills to update church website, assist with church-wide communication through Constant Contact, and assist in producing church bulletins for regular and special services.
  • Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate person.
  • Maintain a clean and organized front desk area.
  • Assist with other office duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher).
  • Previous experience in an office or administrative role is preferred.
  • Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with phone systems and computerized office equipment is beneficial.

First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City in one of the oldest churches in Johnson City, TN. We are located downtown, within walking distance to many of the downtown areas. We are a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). At First Pres, we Love First. We also have an active preschool and children’s and youth ministry. We would love to have you join us as seek to grow deeper in love of God and others together!

Our current administrative assistant is moving back to NC to be with family. She has been such a strong support for us for a year and a half, and she has had opportunities to do ministry here, working some with the children’s ministry and preaching for us. We would love to hire a student who is interested in ministry, cares about the local church, and would like some internship experience, likely in the area of high school/college ministry with occasional opportunities to supply preach. We are very supportive of this hire. The Senior Pastor is a graduate of Milligan and Emmanuel, and the Associate is an Emmanuel graduate, so we would love to support a student!
