Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is looking for a fun, energetic person to help teach and lead our children on Sunday mornings. This worker would be responsible for fostering a positive, affirming atmosphere that uplifts children. They should help our kids learn, play, and grow through Children’s Church programming.
Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Following curriculum and lesson planning, which includes leading Children’s Church on Sunday morning and facilitating teaching and discussion with children.
- Maintaining a high standard of classroom management which includes making sure that children are respectful and obey rules.
- Preparing supplies for crafts, games, and other activities for Children’s Church on Sunday mornings.
- Watching over children in the back of the sanctuary to begin worship service and shepherding kids downstairs for Children’s Church, and back upstairs on Communion Sundays or for other special services.
- Responsible for providing age-appropriate care which includes: maintaining a safe environment and cheerfully interacting with children through stories, play, and prayer.
- Provide child-care hours every Sunday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Able to work at other church events such as Easter, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Vacation Bible School, etc.
- There is the potential for future Wednesday evening programs, which may result in more hours (in the past, those have been from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM each week).
- Be willing to work alongside our team of volunteers to provide care for all children.
- Stay until all children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.
- Straighten the room, wipe down the tables, and clean any snacks or supplies before leaving.
- Report to the Director of Christian Education (DCE)
- Have an understanding and openness toward the Presbyterian Church (USA) and reformed theology.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in caring for children between the ages of 4 to 12
- Possess the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities
- At least 18 years of age
- High school education or equivalent
- Completion of satisfactory background check
- Must adhere to the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Child Protection Policy
- Must provide two references
