The Athletics Department at Milligan University invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Softball Coach with an anticipated start date in August 2025. Reporting to the Head Softball Coach, the Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach in building and maintaining a competitive NAIA-level softball program. This includes promoting the academic success, personal development, and character of student-athletes, while positively representing the program to fans, recruits, and the broader college community.

Primary responsibilities include assisting with the day-to-day operations of the program, coordinating individual skill development, managing the recruitment processes, game day preparation, conducting opponent scouting, monitoring academic progress, and participating in practice and game-day coaching. The position requires a strong emphasis on student-athlete recruitment and retention, program organization, and effective communication.

Successful candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, at least one year of coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, excellent written and oral communication, well-developed presentation skills, outstanding customer and quality service skills, competency with Microsoft Office applications and social media marketing platforms, and the ability to build relationships with student-athletes and families. Candidates with pitching coach experience are especially encouraged to apply, though it is not required. Successful candidates should also demonstrate a strong Christian faith and commitment to Milligan’s mission as a Christian liberal arts university. Primary duties and responsibilities would be performed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours may vary. Frequent evening and weekend work is required for recruitment and game competitions. The work environment will include but is not limited to an office, softball field, gymnasiums, weight room, and locker room. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
