International Students

Milligan welcomes International students from all over the globe. We currently have almost 100 students from 38 countries, from the United Kingdom to Kenya and from the Dominican Republic to South Korea. Milligan truly values the cultural perspective international students bring to the classroom, the intensity they bring to athletic competition, and the flavor they bring to campus life. Milligan University is approved by the United States Department of Homeland Security for education of non-immigrant alien students. The following programs at Milligan University are approved by SEVIS to accept international applicants:

  • Bachelor’s degrees (BA, BS, BSN, BSW – traditional undergraduate programs only
  • Master of Arts in Humanities (MAH)
  • Master of Theological Studies (MTS)
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Divinity (MDiv)
  • Master of Education-Initial Licensure (MEd)
  • Master of Science in Counseling (MSC)
  • Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT)
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS)

Application Process

Bachelor's Students
DEADLINE: All admission materials must be received by June 1 for fall enrollment and December 1 for spring enrollment. A complete I-20 will not be issued until all required documents are on file and payment for the first term is received.

COMPLETE THE INTERNATIONAL QUESTIONNAIRE BEFORE STARTING YOUR APPLICATION. 

  1. APPLICATION & FEE: Complete and submit your official application.
  2. TRANSCRIPTS: Submit your transcripts.
    • All foreign transcripts (whether secondary or university level) must be evaluated by a NACES approved Foreign Credential Evaluation service.
      • We recommend using InCred for transcript evaluations. International athletes are required to use InCred for NAIA eligibility. Students can begin their evaluation process with InCred online at incredevals.org.
      • The evaluation must include a course-by-course level evaluation and include a conversion to the U.S 4.0 GPA scale.
      • There are fees associated with this type of evaluation which are incurred by the student, not Milligan University.
      • Have the results of this evaluation sent to:

    • Students currently attending a US high school or college do NOT need to send their transcripts to an evaluation service.
  3. Proof of English Language Proficiency: 
    • International students whose native language is not English or do not hold a bachelor’s degree completed in residency in the U.S. also must provide proof of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 79 or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 6.5; or ELS Master’s Level Proficiency (successful completion of ELS Level 112); or Duolingo English Test score of at least 110.
    • They may also provide American College Test (ACT) scores, Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT-I) scores, or Classical Learning Test (CLT) scores.
    • Students who reside in Japan may elect to take the EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency, administered by STEP (Society for Testing English Proficiency). The EIKEN score must be at the Grade Pre-1 or Grade 1 level to demonstrate English proficiency at an acceptable level.
    • Undergraduate students who reside in the following countries should submit an ACT and/or SAT-1 score instead of a TOEFL or IELTS score: United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other English-speaking countries.
  4. REFERENCES: 
    • Undergraduate students must submit a church or character reference.
    • An academic reference may also be required of some students who meet specific academic criteria.
    • You will be notified what references are required of you.
  5. ADMITTED STUDENTS:
    • Once a student is admitted, the I-20 process will begin. Please contact your recruiter if you need assistance.
Graduate Students

NEXT STEP

Once all of the required pieces are received, a student’s file is evaluated by the Admissions Committee.  Further instructions for confirmation of enrollment, housing (undergrad), and advising will be sent in the acceptance packet and communicated by the Admissions Recruiter.

PROOF OF SUPPORT

International students must provide an affidavit of support AND prepay all expenses for one semester. $500 of the prepayment is nonrefundable. The affidavit of support is a form provided by Milligan that must be signed by a financial sponsor and be accompanied by current official bank or financial institution records that provide proof of readily available funds, equal to or greater than total costs for one year of enrollment, which will vary by program. The Milligan Admissions Office will provide that information at the point of admission.

Admitted Students

F-1 Student Procedures

Once a student is admitted, there is required documentation to submit BEFORE form I-20 can be issued.  Students may begin gathering and submitting this information even prior to admission, but no I-20 will be issued until a prospect has been fully admitted AND has submitted the required documentation listed below:
