Emmanuel Seminary student wins national paper competition

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (December 14, 2020) – Samuel Guy, a student at Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan, won the graduate division of the 2020 Stone-Campbell Journal Student Paper competition. His paper, titled, “What is Humanity (Adam) that You are Mindful: A Comparison of the Hebrew word Adam in Genesis 1 and 2,” was sponsored by Dr. Jason Bembry, professor of Old Testament.

Guy’s paper was chosen from three finalists who each presented their papers at the annual Stone-Campbell Journal conference.

Originally from Vero Beach, Florida, Guy earned his bachelor’s degree from Kentucky Christian University. He is a student in Emmanuel’s Master of Divinity program where he is the recipient of the prestigious Alexander Campbell Scholarship.

The SCJ Student Paper Competition provides an avenue for students and emerging scholars to test their ideas among like-minded mentors and peers. Judges from SCJ-affiliated institutions provide meaningful critique and assessment, mentoring students through the process of thinking holistically about their stated topic.
