The Musical Theatre degree is an interdisciplinary major where students train in voice, acting, and dance. This program allows students to be involved in all aspects of theatre—developing performance skills through singing, acting, and dancing while exploring stage direction and the technical and design aspects of theatre production. Students learn from passionate and knowledgeable music and theatre professionals and create musical productions each year, performed in a state-of-the-art facility.

Scholarships
The Musical Theatre Scholarship is a competitive, renewable scholarship awarded to a limited number of students each year who demonstrate successful previous experience in musical theatre and exhibit excellent performance ability in singing and acting through an audition. The award amount is determined by a combination of the student’s audition results, program needs, and funding availability. Both non-majors and musical theatre majors are eligible.
For priority consideration, applicants seeking musical theatre scholarships should be admitted to Milligan University by January 15 and audition by the end of February.
Musical theatre scholarships are renewable for a total of four years enrollment and require full-time enrollment during fall and spring semesters. Scholarship recipients are required to maintain academic standards and to participate in musical theatre productions either as a performer or offstage in tech as stipulated by their scholarship award contract.
In-person auditions are preferred, If you are unable to attend one of the audition dates below, another date can be assigned to you. In circumstances where an in-person audition is not possible, an audition via YouTube or other video format links will be accepted.
2023 Auditions: January 28 and February 25
Singing
Perform two memorized songs in contrasting styles that demonstrate your range and versatility. Selections should be from musical theatre repertoire with at least one piece from the Golden Era (pre-1970). Both selections should be accompanied, and an accompanist will be provided. Please bring clean, well-marked sheet music in the appropriate key, organized neatly in a binder.
Acting
Perform a memorized one-minute monologue that showcases your abilities. Selections should be from published plays and should exhibit some element of journey or discovery. Also, the chosen character should be within a reasonable span of your own age. Please avoid monologues that require heavy accents, eccentric character traits, or specific costumes or props.

Facilities
McGlothlin-Street Theatre
Elizabeth Leitner Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts was dedicated February 1, 2008 and houses the McGlothlin-Street Theatre. The theatre is a state-of the-art facility that includes a 294-seat theatre with proscenium stage, fly system, orchestra pit, green room, dressing rooms, box office, and concessions area. The theatre is used for the University’s celebrated theatre arts program, humanities program, academic lecture series, and various campus and community events.
Mary B. Martin Auditorium & George O. Walker Auditorium
Seeger Memorial Chapel was dedicated November 4, 1967. The chapel is a multi-purpose structure serving the University in worship, instruction, lectures, concerts, and drama. The main sanctuary-auditorium, which seats 1145, was renovated in summer 2010 and named the Mary B. Martin Auditorium. The George O. Walker Auditorium, located on the lower level, accommodates 125 and is named in honor of George O. Walker, a long-time trustee and friend of the University
