A Musical Zoo

November 2, 2019 @ 7:30 pm
Milligan College Seeger Chapel, Mary B. Martin Auditorium

Milligan OrchestraThe Milligan Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Kellie Brown, will take you on a zoological journey through centuries of great music that has used the amazing animal kingdom as its inspiration.  No matter how “serious” a composer’s output, it seemed that there has always been time to bring their creativity to the task of depicting the animals they loved. Featured repertoire for the program will include the Overture from “The Thieving Magpie” by Rossini, “The Waltzing Cat” by Leroy Anderson, “The Red Pony” by Aaron Copland, and the “Speckled Hen Overture by Hofeldt as well as excerpts from “Carnival of the Animals” by Saint-Saens and Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.” This program will also include an educational outreach to several elementary schools in our region. Students in these schools will be invited to create art pieces of the animals depicted on the orchestra’s concert. All artwork will be on display in the lobby.
