Songs for a New World @ Milligan College Gregory Center, McGlothlin-Street Theatre

Songs for a New World is a collection of independent scene-songs that are unified by the theme of choice.

“It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice… or take a stand… or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.” As we hear from the captain of a ship in 1492, to the flag maker who has suffered loss, to a mother deciding to create a new life, or a man choosing to take his basketball future into his own hands and get out of the ghetto, this musical explores faith, love, community, and how ordinary people survive extraordinary circumstances.

Tickets will be available at the door and beginning September 26th online and during selected hours at the box office. Beginning this year, all seats will be reserved. All seats $10.

The Milligan Music Department will present a short, family-friendly concert that showcases the wonderful world of film music. The performance will feature iconic songs such as “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s,“Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen, “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman, and “Wonderful Life” from Smallfoot. Music selections from other great film scores include Pirates of the Caribbean by Klaus Badelt, Psycho by Bernard Herrmann, The Shape of Water by Alexandre Desplat, and Memoirs of a Geisha by John Williams. These movie soundtracks and many more will be performed by Milligan’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Heritage, Herd Mentality, and Orchestra.
