Songs for a New World @ Milligan College Gregory Center, McGlothlin-Street Theatre

Songs for a New World explores faith, love, community, and how ordinary people survive extraordinary circumstances. It is the first musical from Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County). The musical follows multiple characters including a captain of a ship in 1492, a flag maker suffering loss, a mother deciding to create a new life, and a man choosing to take his basketball future into his own hands. Through a moving collection of songs, this musical examines life and the choices we make.

Tickets will be available at the door and beginning September 23rd online and during selected hours at the box office. Beginning this year, all seats will be reserved. All seats $10.

Book + Art Exhibit @ P.H. Welshimer Library

Reimagine books as the raw material and inspiration for works of art! The 7th annual Book + Art Exhibit runs in conjunction with Milligan’s Homecoming each fall. All interested faculty, staff, students, alumni, and area community members are encouraged to submit entries beginning October 21. Submissions must be received at the library no later than October 25 at noon. Prizes will be awarded to lucky entrants in a random draw.

William Major: “Fighting for Recognition” @ Milligan Art Gallery, Derthick Hall

“Fighting for Recognition” is a photographic and multimedia series about southern independent wrestling and contact sports. The photography captures these sports within the context of decoding the traits underlying viewing a spectacle. William Major (’15) developed this body of work while completing the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Georgia.

Opening reception: October 26, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Milligan’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Heritage, Herd Mentality, Guitar Ensemble, and Orchestra will present a short, family-friendly concert that showcases the wonderful world of music in film. The performance will feature iconic songs such as “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s,“Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen, and  “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman.
