Milligan announces expansion of two senior leadership roles

Jacqui Steadman Smith and Tony Jones

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (July 20, 2023) — Milligan University president Bill Greer recently announced two changes in the university’s senior leadership team. Greer has named Jacqui Steadman Smith senior vice president for business and finance and Tony Jones vice president for student development and dean. Smith and Jones assumed their new roles on July 1.

“Milligan is fortunate to have talented servant-leaders like Jacqui and Tony who have demonstrated a passionate commitment to fulfilling Milligan’s mission over many years of faithful service,” said Greer. “As members of cabinet and senior leaders of Milligan, their appointments reflect the significant contributions each of them has made to Milligan’s ongoing success.”

Smith joined Milligan in 2006 and is the longest-serving member of the president’s cabinet. She has leveraged her finance and operational expertise to make significant contributions to the many successes Milligan has enjoyed in recent years. She was instrumental in the smooth integration of Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan into the university and has been key to the addition of new programs, capital projects and successful institutional and programmatic accreditations.

Smith has assembled and leads remarkably strong business office, information technology, and physical plant teams. She holds a B.B.A. in accounting from East Tennessee State University and is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant. She previously served as audit manager at Blackburn, Childers & Steagall, PLC, and staff accountant at Rodefer Moss & Co.

A 2003 Milligan alum, Jones joined Milligan in 2008 as assistant director for the university’s Institute for Servant Leadership and has been a member of the president’s cabinet since 2021. Serving most recently as Dean of Students, Jones has developed and led a robust and caring student development team that is dedicated to meeting the needs of students, while navigating the challenges and opportunities inherent in shared academic communities.

Jones’s responsibilities include leading Milligan’s campus activities, campus ministries, health services, multi-cultural engagement, residence life and student success teams. Jones holds a B.S. in accounting and business and received a graduate degree from Geneva College in higher education administration. Prior to joining Milligan, Jones served as a graduate assistant for Bible and student ministries at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa.
