Milligan names director of new master’s in coaching and sport management

MILLIGAN UNIVERSITY, Tenn. (March 3, 2022) – Milligan University has named Lonni Steven Wilson, Ph.D., to head the new Master of Arts in coaching and sport management (MACSM). The MACSM degree is pending SACSCOC approval to start in Fall 2022. Wilson will join Milligan’s faculty as an associate professor of exercise science and director of the MACSM program.

Wilson holds a doctorate in sport management from Ohio State University and a master’s in sport and fitness management from the University of San Francisco. In addition, Wilson also holds an M.F.A. in film and screenwriting and bachelor’s degrees in Christian ministries and English education.

“Dr. Lonni Wilson comes to us with a tremendous amount of experience in both teaching within sport management programs and in developing sport management programs,” said Dr. Trini Rangel, associate professor of exercise science. “His strengths in program development, program cohesiveness, online learning formats, sport journalism, web streaming and overall understanding of the area of sport management will provide invaluable leadership to the new program.”

Wilson has taught in the field of sport management and athletic coaching for 20 years at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. He also has coached volleyball for over 25 years at the NAIA, NCAA, D1, D2, D3 and NJCAA levels. While coaching at State College of Florida, his team reached a No. 10 national ranking and consistently placed in the top-20 nationally.

Wilson currently serves as an associate professor and program coordinator for sport management at Lees-McRae College. Prior to that role, Wilson was the department chair for sport management at Keiser University in Florida.
