Milligan Professor named PA educator of the year

Maureen Knechtel

MILLIGAN UNIVERSITY, TENN. (November 15, 2021) — Milligan University’s Associate Professor of Physician Assistant Studies, Maureen Knechtel, was awarded the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA) Educator of the Year award at the 2021 TAPA Fall Fest Conference.

“I am tremendously honored to receive this award and am thankful to be a part of our wonderful team of talented faculty and staff at Milligan,” said Knechtel. “This award is accepted on behalf of our students, past and present.”

The TAPA Educator of the Year award is given to a physician assistant in education who has shown dedication and support to both their students and to PA education. It is based on accomplishments as both a healthcare provider and instructor, as well as student letters of support.

“I am continually motivated and inspired by my students’ work ethic, determination and drive,” said Knechtel. “It is truly a joy to get to play a small part in their journey towards success.”

Knechtel has spent her clinical career practicing in general cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology and has been a guest lecturer nationally on topics including EKG interpretation, arrhythmias, chronic angina, hypertension, and mixed hyperlipidemia. She recently completed her Doctor of Medical Science degree with a focus in PA education and healthcare leadership.

On top of Knechtel’s award-winning dedication, she has also written numerous EKG and medical textbooks and continues to provide outstanding care for patients as a PA with Ballad Health Cardiovascular Associates.
