Disney songs highlight Milligan Homecoming concert

mouse earsMILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2014) — From “Frozen” to “The Little Mermaid,” audiences will be enchanted by songs from classic Disney films at Milligan College’s Homecoming concert. The Milligan music program will perform “The Wonderful World of Disney” on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 3:30 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Chapel.

This short, family-friendly concert features the Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Heritage, Heard Mentality, Jazz Combo and the Orchestra.

“Disney films and their accompanying music have entertained and warmed the hearts of generations,” said Dr. Kellie Brown, chair of the music area. “Their timeless appeal to the young and young at heart makes them the perfect repertoire for families returning to Milligan for Homecoming.”

Walt Disney started the company in 1923, soon giving birth to a cultural icon, Mickey Mouse, and releasing its first fully-animated feature film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” in 1937, thus beginning a long tradition of iconic characters and music from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Fifty-two animated films later, Disney released “Frozen” in 2013 to commercial and critical acclaim, winning Disney the Academy Award for best animated film and best original song. Disney animated films have been nominated 33 times and won a total of 10 Academy Awards for best original song.

The selections for this concert will span the entire history of Disney animated classics from “Someday My Prince Will Come,” featured in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” to “Vuelie,” the opening musical number from “Frozen.”

Other selections include “When You Wish Upon a Star,” from “Pinocchio”; “Under the Sea,” from “The Little Mermaid”; “Trashin’ the Camp,” from “Tarzan”; and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” from “The Lion King.” More recent songs include music from “Brave” and “When She Loved Me,” from “Toy Story 2.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information on Milligan arts events, visit www.milligan.edu/arts.
