Milligan to host Family Weekend, Feb. 14-16


Family Weekend | February 14-16, 2014MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 7, 2014) — Milligan College students will welcome their families to campus Feb. 14-16 for Family Weekend 2014.

The annual Family Weekend is an opportunity for parents and siblings to see what college life is like at Milligan, as well as explore the Tri-Cities area. On-campus events are planned throughout the weekend, but families are encouraged to do some sightseeing in the local area as well.

“Family Weekend provides a great opportunity for students’ parents, grandparents and siblings to come get a taste of Buff Nation and what it means to be a part of the Milligan community,” said Kristal Dove, director of campus activities. “We are so excited to have them join in the festivities of the weekend.”

Visitors who will be on campus for Family Weekend are not required to pre-register, but a registration table co-hosted by the Student Government Association and Milligan Parent Council will be open in Milligan’s McMahan Student Center to welcome families on Friday, Feb. 14, from 3-6 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9-10 a.m. At registration, parents will receive a packet, including a gift from their host and information about area attractions and restaurants. They also can pick up complimentary tickets to Saturday’s men’s and women’s basketball games.

On Friday, dinner in Milligan’s McCormick Dining Center begins at 5 p.m., followed by an all-hall open house from 7 p.m. to midnight.

At 8 p.m. on Friday, three Milligan music ensembles ― Heard Mentality, Heritage and the Women’s Chorale ― will headline a  Valentine’s Day “Sweet Sounds” dessert cabaret, which also includes a variety of other performers from the college and community.

Tickets are $15 for general admission or $10 for students, and may be reserved by calling the Milligan music office at 423.461.8723. Limited seating is available, and remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

Saturday begins with a dean’s list ceremony at 10 a.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel for families of all students named to the academic dean’s list. This event is followed by a brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in McCormick Dining Center.

The women’s basketball team will play Virginia Intermont at 2 p.m. in Milligan’s Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The men’s basketball team follows with a game against Virginia Intermont at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served in McCormick Dining Center from 5-6 p.m., followed by a second all-hall open house from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The evening will conclude with a love-song themed “Open-Mic Night” in the SUB 7 Coffeehouse, located in the McMahan Student Center. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.; music begins at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, families are encouraged to worship at a local church with their students.
