Milligan receives generous gift of new President’s home

houseMilligan College received a major gift in December of a residence to be used as the presidential home and college hospitality venue. The donor, a former Johnson City businessman, has chosen to remain anonymous.

Built in 2006, the five-bedroom home is located off Carroll Creek Road in north Johnson City and sits on several acres of hilltop land.

Charlie Allcott, chair of Milligan’s Board of Trustees, said the gift was carefully considered and accepted, explaining that it will provide “an excellent resource for the college to host numerous events to advance our mission.”

Milligan has not had an official presidential residence since 2006, when the on-campus residence, Little Hartland, was converted to a Welcome Center and much-needed office space for admissions and the president.

President Dr. Bill Greer and his wife, Edwina, have utilized their personal home for college hospitality events, entertaining hundreds of people in the past year alone. This new home provides a larger venue with more space to host even more college guests.

“One of our great joys has been hosting students, faculty, staff and college friends in our home,” said Greer. “This is an exciting opportunity to continue to expand the hospitality and community that is so important to Milligan. It will also provide a way to establish and build stronger relationships among the college’s donors and friends.”

Greer said the home is spacious and has a peaceful setting and beautiful panoramic view that will provide an ideal location for meetings, retreats, student events and fellowship opportunities.

“We’re grateful for the donor’s generosity and commitment to Christian higher education. We’re eager to see the many ways this will benefit Milligan and help us carry out our mission,” said Greer.
