MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 19, 2012) — The music department at Milligan College will present a concert titled “Milligan’s Musical Heritage” on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 3:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert is one of several special events to be held on campus during Milligan’s annual Homecoming festivities, Oct. 26-27.
The event will celebrate several long-standing musical traditions at Milligan College such as Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale and Heritage, along with newer additions like the Milligan Orchestra, Heard Mentality and Milligan Jazz Combo.
“This concert will showcase the outstanding and diverse music ensembles that Milligan offers,” said Noah DeLong, assistant professor of music at Milligan. “From vocal groups both large and small to instrumental groups like the Milligan Orchestra and Jazz Combo, this event is sure to have something to please a variety of tastes.”
The performance will feature several styles from light classics to sacred to Broadway, and will include a special commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of Heritage, Milligan’s eight-voice a cappella ensemble.
Some of the music to be performed includes “Dance on My Heart” by Allen Koepke, “Buffalo Gals” by Dan Krunnfusz, “The Inner Light” by Jay Chattaway, “And Can it Be” by Thomas Campbell, “How Firm a Foundation” by Dan Forrest and “Cantaloupe Island” by Herbie Hancock.
Alumni who participated in any music ensemble at Milligan are invited to stay for a reception after the concert. The reception will be from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in Walker Auditorium, located in lower Seeger.
