Milligan awarded Military Friendly School designation

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2012) — For the fourth consecutive year, Milligan College is designated a Military Friendly School by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.

The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace and ensure the success of America’s military service members, veterans, and their spouses as students.

Now in its fourth year, the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The 1,739 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.

“We are honored to be included on this list,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “Our mission is to honor God by educating men and women to be servant-leaders. The people who serve in our military embody this with their sacrifice, and the Milligan community is enriched with their presence and example.”

A full story and detailed list of 2013 Military Friendly Schools will be highlighted in the annual G.I. Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.

“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools shows Milligan’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, director for G.I. Jobs and vice president at Victory Media. “As interest in education grows we’re thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.”

The Military Friendly Schools media and website, found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, feature the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences.

The Military Friendly Schools list is the third national ranking Milligan has received in the last month. Milligan also ranks among the top 100 baccalaureate colleges in the nation, according to a ranking of colleges and universities published by Washington Monthly. The magazine’s annual College Guide and Rankings examines what colleges are doing for their students and the public good — on whether they’re improving social mobility, producing research, and promoting public service.

In addition, Milligan moved up in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 “America’s Best Colleges” rankings. In the Regional Colleges in the South classification, Milligan is ranked sixth overall, third among Best Value Schools, and sixth on the “A+ Schools for B Students” list.
