Milligan traffic detours in effect during UT Vols visit

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (August 2, 2012) — Milligan College will host the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team for training, Aug. 9-16. Due to the nature of the Vols’ visit and their full practice schedule, access to campus will be limited during the training camp.

No public events or practice sessions will be held during the training week, and personnel will monitor the college’s main entrance on the Milligan Highway. College employees, preapproved students and visitors who have legitimate business on campus will be permitted.

Beginning Aug. 9, all secondary entrances and access points to Milligan will be closed. In addition, Blowers Boulevard, the main drive through campus, and Buffalo Creek Road will be closed to through traffic until Aug. 16. No loitering will be permitted on Alf Taylor Road near the athletic fields or facilities.

“The Vols are coming to Milligan to train without interruptions, so we are doing everything we can to limit the distractions and maximize the security on campus,” said Mark Fox, Milligan’s vice president for student development/sports development.

On May 17, the Vols announced they would spend a week training at Milligan while the operations and offices of the Tennessee football program move into the new Football Training Center from the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex. Tennessee will bring a contingent of about 200 people, not including members of the media who plan to accompany them.
Since the announcement, Milligan has been busy preparing for a smooth and productive week for the Vols.

“We are excited to have the University of Tennessee on our campus,” Fox said. “Milligan hosts groups throughout the summer, but this one is slightly different. Of course, we’ve had to make some special preparations with our facilities and security measures. Our goal is for them to feel welcome to our community and to create an environment where they can focus and train without disruption.”
