MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (July 16, 2012) — The musical comedy “Star Queen” will take the stage Wednesday, July 25, at 7 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel at Milligan College.
The performance is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
“Star Queen” was written by Tommy Oaks, an Elizabethton, Tenn., native and former campus minister at Milligan, and his son, actor-composer John Thomas Oaks.
The musical is a comedic retelling of the story of the biblical book of Esther. Performed in theaters from North Carolina to Oklahoma, “Star Queen” will feature John Thomas and Tommy playing all of the characters and performing the nearly 20 songs that range in style from country to pop to Broadway.
The free family night at Milligan is presented by Youth in Ministry (YiM), an organization that helps students explore God’s call for their lives. This summer, 98 youth from 13 states and 55 churches will attend the 10th anniversary of the Youth in Ministry Student Leadership Conference, held on Milligan’s campus July 22-28.
“Every year during the Student Leadership Conference, YiM brings a special guest to Milligan and plans an event that is open to the entire community,” said Phyllis Fox, director of YiM and church relations at Milligan. “We are bringing ‘Star Queen’ back to Milligan because it’s always a hit with audiences.
“Since it’s on a Wednesday night, we hope that youth groups, Sunday school classes, small groups, families and individuals will be able to attend the free performance. It is open seating, so just show up and enjoy.”
