Milligan golf tournament raises funds for athletic program

Johnson City, Tenn. (June 18, 2012) — More than 100 golfers participated in the 18th annual Greenwell-Aldridge Golf Classic on Monday afternoon, June 18, at the Johnson City Country Club with proceeds benefiting the Milligan College athletic department.

The team of Jim Fox, Chris Cox, Tom Smith and Greg Watts fired a 52 to capture the men’s division title. The group of Eddie Jones, Rick Lowe, Dave Daniels and Ben Crumley finished in second with a 53, while Milligan swimming head coach Terry Caldwell, Phil Blevins, John Connor and Frank Weeks finished in third two strokes off the winning score with a 54.

The mixed division saw Charles Steagall, Chuck Randolph, Ryan Bowman and Lorie Hale finish first with a score of 57. The group of Mary Green, Mike Rader, Gary Johnson and Dennis Ousley finished in second as they fired a score of 58.

Tommy Burleson recorded a hole-in-one on No. 17. It was Burleson’s second hole-in-one at the Johnson City Country Club.

The tournament is held in memory of Milligan alumni Duard Alridge and Dennis Greenwell, members of the 1957 graduating class as well as student athletes on the  men’s basketball team. Following graduation, both continued to support Milligan College and its athletics program. In 1994, the Aldridge and Greenwell families established the tournament in their memory, and over the past 18 years, the Greenwell-Aldridge Memorial Golf Classic has raised over $250,000 for Milligan athletics.
