Milligan to host Sonata Music Festival


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Nov. 14, 2011) — Milligan College will once again host the renowned Sonata Music Festival, a musical experience for young musicians of all ages, Nov. 18-19. The festival includes two free public concerts on the Milligan campus.

Organized by the Appalachian Classical Music Association, this festival draws student musicians from several states to perform for an elite group of judges and compete for prizes. Adjudicated auditions and awards and scholarships are offered in several categories.

The first public concert of the festival, the Senior Competition, is on Friday, Nov. 18, from 6:30-9 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel. The Honors Recital will be Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts.

This year’s festival will also include a Performing Artist Series showcasing internationally renowned performers in recitals throughout the weekend, with a concert on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at East Tennessee State University’s Mathes Hall. The concert will feature four world renowned artists including Sin-hsing Tsai from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; Derek Polischuk from the University of Michigan; and Chih-Long Hu and Robert Jeter from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. These artists will be playing an international array of piano repertoire all in stereophonic Steinway style.
