MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 10, 2011) — Milligan College will present the magical musical “The Secret Garden” on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2:30 p.m. All performances will be held in the McGlothin-Street Theatre in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts.

Performances are open to the public. General admission is $10; admission for patrons 62 and older is $8; and student tickets are $5. Tickets are available in the Milligan College Bookstore beginning Oct. 14.

The production is one of several special events to be held on campus during Milligan’s annual Homecoming festivities.

Based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, “The Secret Garden” transports audiences to the world of Mary Lennox, a young orphan sent to England to live with her reclusive uncle and his household staff after the death of her parents. At the lonely manor house, Mary discovers a walled garden and releases the magic and adventure locked inside.

“This is a beautiful and tender story of hope and forgiveness, retold in a most charming and lyrical way,” said the play’s director Dennis Elkins, professor of the practice of theater and humanities at Milligan.

The play is produced by Richard Major, professor of theater, with scenic and lighting design by Pamela Adolphi. Charlotte Anderson, assistant professor of the practice of music, will serve as vocal director, and Kellie Brown, associate professor of music, as conductor. Melanie Yodkins, a 2010 Milligan graduate, is the stage manager. She is assisted by 2010 Milligan alumna Heather Knudtsen.

Bringing the audience along on the journey into the magical garden is Carshala Davis, playing the role of Mary Lennox. Davis is a junior psychology major from Memphis, Tenn.

Brennan Seth Tracy, a senior fine arts major from Oblong, Ill., portrays Mary’s uncle, Archibald Craven, Lord of Misselthwaite. Mary’s ghostly Aunt Lily is played by Lauren Holt, a junior from Morristown Tenn.

Other members of the Milligan community performing in “The Secret Garden” include: senior Daniel Banks and freshman Haley Wolfe, both of Elizabethton, Tenn.; junior Caitlin Brock of Jonesborough, Tenn.; freshman Christopher Boswell of Johnson City, Tenn.; sophomore Ian Burt of Madison, Va.; freshman Darcie DeLong, senior John Meding and junior Lindsey Meding, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; freshman Adam Derrick of Boone, N.C.; Tim Dillon, professor of history and humanities; Anne Elliott, assistant professor of the practice of music; freshman Megan Guerra of Paoli, Ind.; sophomore Shae Judge of Fort Meade, Md.; sophomore Jonathan Mehl of Parsonsfield, Maine; sophomore Danielle Moore of Unicoi, Tenn.; 2010 Milligan alumnus Dan Ott; sophomore Matt Rees of Redford, Mich.; and senior Corri Richardson of Kingsport, Tenn.
