Milligan to host area-wide string orchestra concert

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 14, 2010) — Milligan College will host the fourth annual area-wide string orchestra concert on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert is the culmination of an all-day workshop featuring 200 high school and college string students from Dobyns-Bennett High School, Science Hill High School and Milligan College.

The evening will showcase the beautiful and energetic sounds of a mass string orchestra, conducted by Dr. James Anderson, director of orchestral activities at the distinguished Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

Anderson received his formal training as conductor and pianist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.
