Hayden to speak at Milligan Commencement


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 29, 2010)—Dr. Marshall Hayden, a minister and distinguished alumnus of Milligan College, will be the keynote speaker for Milligan’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 8, at 2 p.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel.

Hayden served as senior minister at Worthington Christian Church in Columbus, Ohio, for 28 years before retiring in September of 2009. He has served on the Milligan Board of Trustees since 1985. Prior to becoming a trustee, he was on Milligan’s Board of Advisors for three years.

During commencement, the college also will present Hayden with its highest honor, the Fide et Amore award for his loving and faithful service to the college.

“Dr. Hayden’s ministry has extended beyond the local church, and Milligan is one of the recipients of his dedication and service,” said Milligan’s President Don Jeanes. “He has faithfully promoted and supported the college for more than 50 years.”

A 1963 graduate of Milligan, Hayden went on to earn a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1966 and a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1973 at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Kentucky).  He began his ministry in 1961 and has served churches in Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

The author of four practical ministry books and numerous articles, Hayden currently serves on the publishing committee for Standard Publishing. He is a frequent guest lecturer at Christian colleges and has been the United States agent for Zimbabwe Christian College for 11 years.

Class of 2010
Milligan will graduate 152 students. The spring 2010 graduates include 42 Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), 70 Bachelor of Science (B.S.), 24 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.), six Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), one Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (M.S.O.T.), and nine Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees.
