Art of Jonesborough native on display at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 7, 2010) — “Collegiate Works (2006-2010),” an exhibit featuring the art of Milligan College senior Jake Merrick, opens Sunday, April 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Milligan College Art Gallery, located in the lower level of Derthick Hall. The exhibit, which closes April 24, is free and open to the public.

Merrick, a native of Jonesborough, Tenn., is a fine arts and humanities major. His exhibit highlights representational art as well as abstractions, taking the form of paintings, drawings and sculpture.

As the title suggests, Merrick’s exhibit encompasses works that span his college career. The display also showcases art created by Merrick while he studied abroad in Florence, Italy.

“The works shown in this exhibit are simply one part of a larger story,” Merrick said. “I hope that what I offer as an artist demonstrates faithful attention to both details and the greater picture of life.”
