Milligan to host the Sonata Festival: Bluff City singing group J4 to perform

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (October 23, 2009) – Milligan College will host the Sonata/Sonatina Festival on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7. Concerts and competitions will take place throughout each day in Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel and the Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts.

The Sonata Festival is organized by the Appalachian Classical Music Association and draws student musicians from several states. The students perform for an elite group of judges and compete for prizes.

This year, the festival includes a special performance by J4, a musical group from Bluff City, Tenn., that gained national attention as the winner of the CBS Singing Family Face-Off. This group of four siblings brings a variety of musical styles to the table. The group members, ranging in age from 16 to 7, play numerous instruments including the piano, bass, drums and violin. They will perform on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in Seeger Chapel.

Other public events include the Senior High Audition/Concert on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Gregory Center and the Outstanding Performers Recital on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m., also in the Gregory Center.

The concert events, which are funded by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, are free and open to the public.
