Milligan offers Bible courses online

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (July 13, 2009) – Taking a college Bible course will soon be just a few clicks away. Milligan College has announced they will offer two of their foundational Bible courses online. New Testament Survey, BIBL 124, will be available online beginning this fall, and Old Testament Survey, BIBL 123, will be offered in Spring 2010.

“The new online option will offer flexibility for college students and working professionals to balance the demands of a busy life while attaining educational goals,” said Dr. Mark Matson, academic dean at Milligan College. “It also is a convenient way for those interested in learning more about the Bible to do so in the comfort of their home.”

Matson, who also serves as an associate professor of Bible at Milligan, will teach both courses. A New Testament scholar whose research focuses on the Gospels, Matson holds a master of divinity degree from Emmanuel School of Religion and a Ph.D. in New Testament from Duke University.

“The core curriculum at Milligan, which includes both Old and New Testament Survey, is designed to provide students with a broad foundation for life-long learning,” said Matson. “It is important to have a knowledge of the content of the Bible, as well as an understanding of how historical, cultural and social contexts affect the Bible’s composition, reception, interpretation and lived application.”

Courses will be delivered to the student via Milligan’s Internet course management system and the technology development lab. Students must meet the college’s admissions requirements but no previous college courses are needed. Each class is three credit hours.

These courses are for non-degree seeking or professional studies students only. Traditional day students are not eligible for these online courses. Traditional undergraduate students who need to re-take a traditional course that is also offered online may seek approval from the Academic Dean’s office to re-take the online version.
