Milligan announces online summer courses

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 12, 2009) – College students and working professionals interested in taking an online class this summer now have a few more options. In addition to an array of summer courses available on-campus, Milligan College will offer four courses online — Computer Applications, Object Oriented Programming, Principles of Organizational Communication and Developmental Psychology.

“Online education offers flexibility for college students and working professionals,” said Dr. Mark Matson, academic dean at Milligan College. “It is a convenient way to balance the demands of a busy life while attaining educational goals.”

Courses will be delivered to the student, June 1 through July 24, via Milligan’s Internet course management system and the technology development lab. Students must meet the college’s admissions requirements but no previous college courses are needed. Each class is three credit hours.

Computer Applications, CIS-M 275, is a study of the Microsoft Windows environment and current Windows Office Suite applications, including word Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint software. Keyboarding skills are assumed.

Object Oriented Programming, CIS-M 297, provides an introduction to the Microsoft Windows application programming, providing a rigorous and comprehensive course in computer programming for students with little or no programming experience. Students should have knowledge of the Windows operating environment.

Principles of Organizational Communication, COMM 341, provides an overview of organizational communication and the role that it plays in the American system. Attention is given to the nature of leadership, organizational structure in business and industry, and the role of communication in the process by which complex tasks are carried out.

Developmental Psychology, PSYC 252, is an introduction to development through the entire life span, the realms of emotional, social, physical and cognitive growth and change. The study is applicable to students majoring in psychology, nursing, education and ministry, or any student who desires a knowledge and appreciation of change and stability, growth and atrophy, throughout life.
