Free summer concert to feature J-Rus

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (June 6, 2007) — Next week the warmth of summer will bring more than just swimmers to Johnson City’s Legion Street Parks and Recreation Center. On Friday, June 15, at 7 p.m., the center will host a free summer concert, featuring Christian hip-hop artist J-Rus.

Joining J-Rus for the “Transformation Tour” will be Tri-Cities American Idol winner Robbie Hale, who serves as minister of music at Grace Temple Eternal Life Center, and guest speaker David Short of Miracle Ministries International.

The brain-child of Amanda Brotherton, a graduate student in the education program at Milligan College, and funded in part through Milligan’s Institute for Servant Leadership, the event was conceptualized as a means of connecting with the “at-risk youth in the community.”

“My husband grew up around drug and alcohol abuse,” said Brotherton. “Sadly, he died last year of what I considered to be a lifelong addiction to drugs. I wanted to send a message to youth that no matter what they are struggling with God is bigger and can help them overcome their problems. I wanted to provide positive influences that they can learn from and aspire to become.”

The Transformation Tour is sponsored by Milligan College, Johnson City Parks and Recreation, and Ambrose Sound.
