CCCU president to speak at Milligan Commencement


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 26, 2007) — Dr. Paul Corts, president of t he Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and former assistant attorney general for administration with the U.S. Department of Justice, will be the keynote speaker at Milligan College’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel.

Prior to working with the Department of Justice, Corts served as president of Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida and Wingate University in North Carolina. Additionally, he has held administrative and teaching positions at Oklahoma Baptist University and Western Kentucky University.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Corts as our commencement speaker,” said Milligan College President Don Jeanes. “He has led a distinguished career in Christian higher education and is a capable leader for the CCCU, of which Milligan is a member institution.”

As a higher education administrator, Corts has focused on strategic planning for campus growth and program development along with resource development and management. His presidencies have reflected strong growth in revenues, assets, reserves, endowments, technology and physical facilities. His academic studies have specialized in rhetoric and communications and he is the co-author of two textbooks in the field.

Corts has served many professional organizations in higher education, including a term as president of the American Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities, an advisory policy board member for the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, as well as chair of the board of directors of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida. He has also been devoted to economic development, serving on statewide boards such as Florida’s Council of 100.

Presenting the Baccalaureate address on Sunday, May 6, at 10 a.m. will be Timothy Ross, minister at Hopwood Christian Church. Ross is a graduate of Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion and has taught at both institutions. He, his wife, Marcia, and four children moved to the area after serving as missionaries in Kenya. They continue to work with Christians in East and West Africa.

Milligan will graduate 183 students. The spring 2007 graduates include 59 bachelor of arts (B.A.), 82 bachelor of science (B.S.), 22 bachelor of science in nursing (B.S.N.), five master of education (M.Ed.), 14 master in business administration (M.B.A.), and one master of science in occupational therapy (M.S.O.T.) degrees.
