Milligan College presents Christmas concert

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (November 15, 2006) – Milligan College will present “A Milligan College Community Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m., in Seeger Memorial Chapel. The concert is free but a $5 donation is suggested with all proceeds benefiting The Shepherd’s Inn, a temporary safe house in Carter County for women and children. A Christian ministry, The Shepherd’s Inn has provided shelter, food and counseling to nearly 1000 women and their children since it opened in 1997.

“The majority of our $65,000 operational budget is provided by the communities’ churches, clubs, businesses and individuals,” said Paul Gabinet, executive director of The Shepherd’s Inn. “I am thankful to Milligan for their generosity. It is humbling and appreciated beyond words.”

The community Christmas concert is directed by the Milligan faculty members Dr. Kellie Brown, area chair and assistant professor of music, and Doug Grove-DeJarnett, adjunct professor of music and minister of music at Munsey United Methodist Church in Johnson City, Tenn. The concert will feature the Milligan College Concert Choir, Milligan College Orchestra, Milligan College Brass Ensemble and Milligan College Gospel Choir. Much of the music will be familiar songs of the season.

At the evening’s closing, the musical ensembles will invite the audience to join in singing favorite traditional hymns of the season, followed by a special candle lighting ceremony.

The doors to Seeger Chapel will open at 7:30 p.m. for seating. For further information, please contact the Milligan Music Office at 423.461.8723 or music@milligan.edu.
