Concert Choir to tour Midwest


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 28, 2006) — The Milligan College Concert Choir will open its 2006 spring tour on Sunday, March 5, with a concert at Plainfield Christian Church in Plainfield, Ind.

The tour will last eight days, concluding with a concert on March 12 at West Village Christian Church in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The choir will cover 1,400 miles in four states: Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Performance locations include: Plainfield Christian Church, Plainfield, Ind., on Sunday, March 5; West Lebanon Christian Church, West Lebanon, Ind., on Sunday evening, March 5; Iroquois Valley Christian Church, Rensselaer, Ind., on Monday, March 6; South Side Christian Church, Munster, Ind., on Wednesday, March 8; Lebanon Christian Church, Lebanon, Ind., on Thursday, March 9; Clayton Christian Church, Clayton, Ind., on Friday, March 10; Tates Creek Christian Church, Lexington, Ky., on Sunday, March 12; and West Village Christian Church, Oak Ridge, Tenn., on Sunday evening, March 12.

The choir will perform select arrangements by Bach, Handel, Brahms, Philip P. Bliss, Moses Hogan and George Gershwin, as well as works from several other composers and arrangers.

The Milligan College Concert Choir is composed of 33 students from throughout the United States. The Choir is under the direction of John Wakefield, associate professor of music at Milligan. Wakefield is a veteran of many years as a choral conductor in Illinois, California and Ohio. He is active in the American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National Church Music Conference and The Hymn Society of the United States and Canada.

Accompanist for the choir is sophomore Kylie Thiel of Rensselaer, Ind.
