Milligan College to present “I Got Rhythm”


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 14, 2006) — The Milligan College Concert Choir will present “I Got Rhythm,” an evening of stage, screen and spiritual songs, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25, at 7:30 p.m.

The musical is directed by Milligan College associate professor of music John Wakefield and will include songs from “Fiddler on the Roof” and “South Pacific,” as well as songs from the 1940s and other standards from Broadway.

Choreography is by Jonesborough dance studio, the Gay Whitt School of Dance. The musical will be accompanied by Milligan sophomore Kylie Thiel of Rensselaer, Ind., and will feature many soloists and ensembles from the Milligan College Concert Choir.

Soloists include Kellie Sams of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Matt Haas of Kingsport, Tenn. Other soloist include: Kyle Kuhn of Fishers, Ind.; Allison Nick, Williamsport, Pa.; and a duet by Scott Glisson of Talmadge, Ohio, and Leslie Johnson of Marietta, Ga.

“This will be a very informal, exciting and upbeat evening,” said Wakefield. “Everyone will enjoy hearing the popular tunes from both today and yesterday.”

The Milligan Concert Choir has sung by invitation from the President at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. The choir has toured throughout England with performances in Coventry Cathedral, as well as the Civic Centre of the city of Birmingham. The week following the musical the Concert Choir will embark on a tour that will take them to Knoxville, Indianapolis, and Chicago, as well as other Midwest cities.

Admission to the concert is $5.00. Tickets may be purchased in advance from the Milligan College music department or at the door each night of the concert.
