Summer conference helps teens think about future

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 2, 2006) — High school students thinking about their future careers and how they can make a difference are invited to the weeklong Big Picture Teen Conference at Milligan College, July 23-29.

Hosted by Youth in Ministry (YiM), a partnership of Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion, the Big Picture Teen Conference helps teens explore their personality styles, their spiritual gifts, and specific areas of ministry and vocational interest, such as healthcare, education, business, industry or full-time ministry.

“Many young people today are asking themselves, ‘What will I do with my life?’ ‘What is my purpose?’ ‘What are my gifts and skills?’” said Phyllis Fox, director of YiM. “We explore those questions at The Big Picture and help teens find answers. Teens often discover, many for the first time, that God has a special purpose for their lives.”

Curtis Booher of Crossroads Christian Church in Gray, Tenn., is dean of the Big Picture Conference. Other conference leaders and counselors include youth and student ministers from churches in the Southeast, as well as faculty from both Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion.

”The Big Picture is a week like no other Christian camp or conference. Our mission is for The Big Picture to be a week that will change teens’ lives and help guide their futures,” said Fox.

The 2006 conference is for high schools students graduating in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.  Deadline for applications is June 1. Registration scholarships are available to attend the conference. “This year, YiM is offering 60 registration scholarships to students who attend the conference for the first time. We have already begun to receive applications so we encourage students not to wait until the registration deadline if they are interested in receiving a registration scholarship,” stated Fox.

YiM has led workshops and seminars throughout the region and across the U.S. to help teens identify their unique calling in life. This summer, YiM will be the coordinator and sponsor of the North American Christian Convention (NACC) Teen Convention, held in Louisville, Kentucky, June 27-29.
