Milligan College Concert Choir to present “On Broadway!”


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 19, 2005) — The Milligan College Concert Choir will present, “On Broadway,” an evening of great desserts and delightful music. Songs will be performed with choreography from decades of Broadway musicals. The concert will take place on Friday, April 29, at 7:00 p.m., in the Walker Auditorium of Seeger Chapel on the Milligan College campus.

The evening will include songs from Carousel, Phantom of the Opera, Gershwin arrangements, Rogers & Hammerstein and Lerner & Loewe musicals.

Many of the students in the choir are music majors or minors who plan careers in music education or in music ministry. Various other majors are also represented in the group.

The Milligan choir upholds a long tradition as an outstanding college choir.  In its past, it has sung at the invitation of the President at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC.  The choir has toured throughout England , with special performances in Coventry Cathedral and in the Civic Centre of the City of Birmingham.

More recently, the Milligan College Concert Choir has sung at the North American Christian Convention and the Conference on World Evangelism-National Missionary Convention. This year the choir performed at the Tennessee State Convention of the American Choral Directors’ Association.

The Milligan Concert Choir is under the direction of John Wakefield, associate professor of music at Milligan. Wakefield is a veteran of many years as a choral conductor in Illinois , California and Ohio.  He is active in the American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National Church Music Conference and The Hymn Society of the United States and Canada.

Accompanist for the choir is senior Dawn Loughry. Choreography is by Tamera Bracken.

Admission to the concert is $7. A variety of desserts will be available throughout the show. Tickets are available from the Milligan College music office or on the night of the concert. For more information, contact the music office at 423.461.8723.
