Milligan Professor to perform in Piccolo Spoleto Festival

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 8, 2002) – Dr. David C. Runner, professor of music at Milligan College, has been selected to perform at this years L’Organo 2002 Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C. The festival will take place May 25 through June 9 at various churches in the Charleston area.

Spoleto Festival USA was founded in 1977 as the American counterpart to the Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy. Along with hosting this festival, Charleston is home to the first theater in America, the first ballet company in America, and is still home to the oldest musical organization in the country.

Festival events recognize masters in their artistic fields from South Carolina and the southeast region.

Runner is one of 13 performers chosen to perform in this festival. Runner’s recital is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Charleston. He will perform: Prelude in B Minor, JS Bach; Trio in G Minor, JS Bach; Toccata, Pamela Decker; Prelude “De Profundis”, Herbert Howells; Nibs and Nobs (an organ rag), Robin Dinda; and Variations of B.A.C.H. for pedal solo, Noel Rawsthorne.

Runner obtained his bachelor’s degree in music from Boise State University and his master of music degree and his doctor of musical arts degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Runner has been published in The American Organist and The Diapason magazines. He holds memberships in the Johnson City Civic Chorale, the American Guild of Organists and the National Association of Schools of Music. He has also done presentations on organ/church music.
