Coaching Del Harris Hometown: Plainfield, Indiana Graduated from Milligan: 1959 Major: Religion; M.A., Indiana University Current occupations: Dallas Mavericks, Assistant Coach; China National Basketball Team, Head Coach A Vision for your Life: Del Harris is no stranger to success. For 45 years, he has coached basketball to people of all ages. He has been named Coach of the Year several times throughout his career, including in 1995 with the Los Angeles Lakers. He has also coached the Houston Rockets and the Milwaukee Bucks. In twelve seasons, he became the 20th coach to lead 500 NBA wins. On a global level, he has coached in world events, with national teams including Canada, China, Puerto Rico, and the United States. In addition to being named to the Basketball Hall of Fame of Indiana, he has also authored four books and instructional videos on basketball. A Milligan Moment: Over fifty years ago, the Milligan faculty positively affected Harris -- and they continue to hold a dear place in his heart. He cites nearly fifteen professors and administrators as particularly influential. Just like Milligan's current faculty, those individuals expressed "true concern for the students." Outside the classroom, Harris also fondly remembers "the various relationships with classmates, particularly on the athletic fields." The Shape of a Christian Faith-Based Education: Harris believes in the power of a faith-based education. "During the college years, a young person needs role models in the educational system that can confirm young faith, not destroy it. Milligan is a place that confirms and develops faith."
