Preparing Students for a Life of Service:
"After graduating from Milligan, I moved back to my hometown of
Longmont, Colorado, where for two years I taught as a second
grade teacher at Rocky Mountain Christian Academy. My time
spent both at Milligan and the Academy solidified my passion for
children and my desire to serve God cross-culturally. In the
fall of 2002, I accepted the call to teach in Taiwan at an
international Christian school serving the missionary and
business communities."
"In Taiwan, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism dominate many
aspects of daily life. Religion is everywhere. While adding
another god to their religious pantheon is usually not a
difficulty, accepting the one God of Christianity certainly is.
Just over two percent of the Taiwanese people claim Christ as
their Savior, but that number is growing, and I feel blessed to
be a part of the process."
"My experience at Milligan taught me to measure my students not
just by their grades, but by the progress of their hearts. I
have witnessed the transformation of several individual
students, and even whole families, who have made a commitment to
pursue a committed relationship to the Lord."
Milligan's Environment of Influence:
"Milligan's relatively small community of students, faculty, and
staff provide a truly caring environment in which one can learn
and grow. I felt at home virtually upon arrival when students I
didn't even know cheerfully flocked to the new life I had so
tightly packed into my parent's car, quickly whisking it off to
my dorm room. Long chats with professors, study breaks with
friends, Bible studies in President Jeanes' living room, and
numerous other special memories mark my time at Milligan. That's
why I continue to see Milligan as a pivotal home in my life, a
place where lasting Christian relationships began and were
nurtured, relationships which I'm confident will continue
throughout my life."
"Living life in the caring community of Milligan College
challenged me to grow in my relationships and my spirituality.
My experience as a resident assistant in the dorm showed me the
value of living in community; the evening Vespers services
taught me the importance of prayer and worship; and touring with
Heritage, an a cappella outreach team, helped me to recognize
the awesome power of unity among Christians in our own country
and worldwide."
Life-Changing Moments at Milligan:
"While sitting in my wooden seat in Seager Chapel, listening to
a representative from the English Language Institute China
address the overwhelming need for Christian teachers in Asia,
the course and focus of my life was changed. Tears began
welling up in my eyes and I knew that God was calling me to
something I had never before considered. I spent that summer
teaching English in Changchun, China, where I caught the "Asia
Bug." I promised to return to Asia if God would open the doors.
And He did."
