Nathan Jenkins
Hometown: Mountain City, TN
Graduated from Milligan: 2001
Major: Business Management and Computer Information Systems
Current residence: Johnson City, TN
Profession: Managing Director

Planning ahead.
Nathan is the Managing Director for the Tri Cities with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, a profession he was introduced to while a student at Milligan.

"I started as an intern my junior year at Milligan. Northwestern Mutual Financial Network's internship is ranked in the top ten nationally every year by the Princeton Review. Most people do not know that.”

He loves his job helping people make wise financial decisions.

“I'm good at helping people make difficult decisions that affect their future that they otherwise would not make without me. A lot of times I've got to help people make difficult decisions on whether or not they want to protect their family or buy the new big screen. I wouldn't have a career if people automatically made the right move every time. You've got to have a plan, and that's where most people fall short. People spend more time planning their vacations than they do their financial plans.”

Milligan's Humanities Matters
Nathan says that Milligan helped prepare him for his occupation as well as helping him to become a well-rounded person. He started out hating humanities and didn't know what it had to do with his education. He soon found out.

“It has everything to do with it. The Humanities Tour opened up my eyes to a much bigger world out there. I would like to think I am a more well-rounded human being because of Milligan.”

Fond College Memories
Aside from the Humanities Tour, Nathan recalls some great memories from his time at Milligan. Playing on the basketball team, he experienced three conference championships, two national tournament appearances, and being on the only team to go undefeated in conference play with a 21-0 record. The 1998-1999 team was inducted into the Milligan Athletics Hall of Fame on October 27, 2006. He also met his two best friends during his time at Milligan. Nathan also learned that "nothing in life will be given to you. You must earn everything, but the reward in the end is well worth the sacrifice."
