Theatre at Milligan

Milligan’s theatre program has earned regional and national acclaim, not to mention lots of applause, laughter, and occasionally a heartfelt tear or two. Milligan theatre productions have been featured at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and area partnerships have included the Barter Theatre and Jonesborough Repertory Theatre.

The Milligan College Theatre for Young Audiences has been touring area elementary schools for 20 years and has played to a combined audience of 175,000. Another 20-year tradition is the annual student-directed Festival of One Act Plays. For the past 8 years, this spring tradition has also included a Festival of Short Films produced by Communications students.

The college opened a new theatre facility in January 2008 — the Gregory Liberal Arts Center — featuring a state-of-the-art theatre facility like none-other in our region. The Center features three mainstage productions a year.

Milligan not only believes in the art of the spoken and written word, but the Fine Arts Area truly represents the vibrancy and spirit of the college itself. Our theatre and fine arts students (including art, music, photography, and theatre arts) are encouraged to enhance their God-given personalities and talents.

Our graduates are involved in national touring companies, regional theatre, and various fine arts fields throughout the U.S. Others have pursued graduate studies at institutions such as New York University, University of Georgia, Michigan State, and East Tennessee State University.

Theatre Scholarships
are available at Milligan College. Students seeking scholarships should be a theatre major or minor, or display a high level of commitment to the program. Recipients are to be determined by theatre faculty.

If you would like to schedule an audition for theatre at Milligan, please contact Richard Major.

If you have questions about the Fine Arts program, or need additional information, please contact Steffani Taylor, Admissions Counselor.

“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

-- Oscar Wilde
