LET US LEND YOU A HAND...
Student Success
You have an exciting opportunity to learn about God's world in all its varieties, and we want to help you make the most of this opportunity. Success as we define it involves a lot of work-- attending class, studying hard. However, the road to success can also be FUN -- developing lasting friendships and growing through participation in activities around campus. The Office of Student Success is here to help you on your journey!
Anytime we can help you with an issue or challenge, please stop by the Center for Calling and Career Exploration in the upper level of the Student Center or call 423.461.8981 . Let your parents know that they can also call us at anytime. We'll do our best to connect you with the office that can best help you with academic, spiritual, social or other needs. It's all about helping you succeed at Milligan -- and ultimately be a servant-leader to change lives and shape culture in the profession of your choice.
First Year Mentoring Program
Each of us, in our quest for knowledge and the pursuit of our dreams, have dealt with people who have influenced our decisions and helped us further our goals. These people become our mentors and guides. Mentors are particularly crucial at the beginning of your education, at critical turning points, and at the beginning of your professional career. Mentoring is a vital part of student development at Milligan. Just as Jesus taught and guided by both His actions and His words, mentors at Milligan seek to lead, guide and cheer you on toward your goals.
At Milligan, you will be paired with a faculty or staff mentor, based on your academic interest. If you haven't decided on a major yet, your mentor will help guide you through the core curriculum and career assessments to help you discern God's call. In addition to meeting regularly with your mentor on campus, mentors frequently have students over for dinner, games, movies, Bible studies, and often worship together. Your mentor will help you successfully navigate through your first year as a college student. From there, you will be ready to work closely with an academic advisor in your major, who will lead you through to your graduation.
Tutoring Program
Even "brainy" students need academic help in college. The Tutoring Program at Milligan is open to all students. Often, students will form study groups to work through more challenging material and study for exams. You can also sign up to work one-on-one with a tutor - another student who has been through what you're experiencing and is now trained to help others - for one-hour sessions or longer, as needed. Many tutors are available in humanities and Bible courses, although tutors are also available in other academic areas, such as math, biology or psychology. Tutoring is free, and you are encouraged to use this quality service to help you succeed in your classes and reach your academic potential. Contact the Student Success Office at any point throughout the year to sign up for the Tutoring Program.
