Did you ever notice how many opportunities we have in life? We can worship God at the church of our choice. We can travel in this country where we want, whenever we want without passing through armed checkpoints. We have freedom of speech to speak out on issues we feel passionate about. And we have the freedom to choose the college we want to attend (and thank YOU for choosing Milligan!).

You have many opportunities at Milligan for learning which are not inside the classroom.  Those opportunities include special speakers or events which come to our campus and region. One such opportunity being offered this year is for those students interested in some aspect of the medical field, and it is called a health professions seminar. These seminars are being offered periodically during this academic year and will feature speakers who can provide information about representative medical professions. What an opportunity you have to learn, and perhaps even narrow down your possible career choices!

I understand that school is a busy time. There is studying to do, hanging out with friends, going to ball games or concerts. It’s easy to say “I don’t have time,” but think of the opportunity you might be missing. Isn’t an hour and FREE PIZZA worth learning something new? Isn’t that one of the things a college education if all about -- exploring new horizons, learning new things and finding an exciting career?

The next seminars are Thursday for Osteopathic Medicine, and Sept. 25 for Allopathic Medicine (do you know the difference?). We have a speaker coming from the new LMU School of Osteopathic Medicine on Thursday  and another speaker from ETSU Quillen College of Medicine on Sept. 25. Both of these seminars will be held in the Thompson Room of the Science Building at 4:30 p.m. Check the MYMC webpage for further seminars in different professions in the months to come.

Just remember to make the most of your time at Milligan. Will your opportunities during these exciting undergraduate years be lost or gained? The choice is yours.
