On Wednesday, the Milligan softball team suffered two losses against Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Brevard College. After the two-game sweep, the Lady Buffs are currently seventh in the AAC with a record of 1-3.

In game one, Brevard jumped on the Lady Buffs early with a second-inning grand slam that pushed the Lady Tornadoes up by five runs. Struggling for a comeback, junior Megan Aldridge launched a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth.

Brevard held the Lady Buffs to their lone run, winning the game 9-1.

The Lady Buffs were shut out in game two by an outstanding performance from the Tornadoes. In the third

inning, Brevard broke the scoreless game by driving in two runs. The Tornadoes added an insurance run in the top of the forth from a fielders choice.

Freshman Mallory Tincher led the Lady Buffs at the plate, going 1-1 with two walks. Senior Courtney Ruth and Freshman Maegan Gotchall also contributed, each going 1-3.  Sophomore Alicia Dick was credited with the loss.

“We are a better team than that, and I hope (this loss) doesn’t get us down for the rest of the season,” said senior outfielder Courtney Ruth.

Coach Wes Holly believes the team did not execute well with the bats.

“We need someone to step up and take leadership” said Holly.

The Lady Buffs will meet North Greenville at home field for a 1 p.m.game today and travel to Bristol on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against Virginia Intermont.
