In its double-header Wednesday the Milligan baseball team split with Appalachian Athletic Conference team Brevard College. The Buffs walked away with a 6-2 win in the first game and a 10-1 loss in the second.
Junior Brett Seybert pitched eight innings in the first game, only giving up two runs, one in the fifth and one in the sixth inning. Freshman Andrew Klahn had the save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Buffs made no runs until inning nine, when a six-run rally put Milligan on top.
Junior first baseman Kory Kinnear led the Buffaloes in hits during the first eight innings with three. Freshman shortstop Spencer Street and sophomore second baseman Drew Anders each had one hit.
Senior Dave Rusaw had the game- winning two-RBI single. Kinnear and senior designated hitter Beau Alford each followed with a one-RBI single to push the Buffs even further ahead.
In game two, the Buffs suffered a disappointing loss with a final score of 10-1.
Sophomore Adam Snyder pitched 4 2/3 innings, surrendering eight runs, only two of which were earned.
Senior Jim Iademarco pitched the last 1 1/3 inning, surrendering the final two runs to Brevard.
Six defensive errors proved to be costly for the Buffs.
“We can’t seem to put it all together during the second games,” Kinnear said.
The Buffs struggled offensively as well, only scoring one run in the fourth inning. Anders scored the lone run for Milligan on an RBI double by junior third baseman Todd Sangid.
Freshman Tyler Turner and Sangid led Milligan at the plate, each going 2-3.
This Saturday at 1 p.m. Milligan will play a conference series against Bluefield College in a double-header at Anglin Field.
