TALLAHASEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida State University professor Doron Nof believes that Jesus may have actually walked on a hard-to-see patch of ice, contesting the popular Bible story in Matthew 14 that he walked on water. Nof, a professor of oceanography, studied records of water temperatures in the Mediterranean and discovered that two lengthy periods 2,500 to 1,500 years ago were chilly enough for ice patches to form during cold spells on the Sea of Galilee. This may offer a scientific explanation to a Bible miracle.
ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) – Hard liquor could be beneficial to your plants, according to William Miller, director of Cornell’s Flower Bulb Reasearch Program. Giving some plants diluted alcohol stunts the growth of the leaves and stems but does not affect the blossoms. This is helpful for home gardeners who do not want their flowers to tip over or get too big. Miller conducted a study that focused on paperwhite narcissus and other daffodils. The paperwhites work the best, but he had promising results with tulips as well.
