Open dorms have finally arrived at Milligan College. Each dorm will be open one night of the week of Oct. 17-21.
“Monday night will be Hart’s open dorm,” said senior and resident assistant Randall Moore. “Webb will be hosting on Tuesday night. On Wednesday night Kegley, Quillen and Williams will have open dorms. Sutton will host on Thursday night. Friday will be women’s open dorm.”
Along with open dorm privileges, each dorm will provide activities for students. Friday is the culminating night where there will be a cookout, band, battle of the residence halls ultimate Frisbee tournament and finally a pool party with snacks to end the night.
“Residence Life Week is a week when the focus for the week will be improving community in the residence life halls,” said Moore. “There will be specific activities that each dorm will do separately during the week.”
Director of Student Life Kim Parker came up with the idea of Residence Life Week.
“Residence Life Week is a time to celebrate and highlight the role of residence life in the Milligan experience,” said Parker. “It is a time to celebrate life together and the unique experience of living in community. It is an event that is meant to build community amongst the residents at Milligan. It is an opportunity for students to get to know more of the residents in their own hall as they interact and enjoy the events in different halls each night.”
“The same rules will apply to Residence Life Week that do to regular open dorms,” Moore said. “Each room’s door must remain open, and a light must be on. At the end of the night, the on-duty RA will be responsible for making sure all opposite sexes are out of the rooms and dorms.”
