Milligan Lady Buffs soccer team defeated the University of the Cumberlands on Monday evening with a final score of 2-0.
Even though neither team scored in the first half, the Lady Buffs played hard while freshman goalkeeper Rosanna Couture defended the net.
In the 73rd minute, junior Kristin Zutt captured a loose ball and scored the first goal of the night.
Freshman Amy Boyd clenched the Lady Buffs’ victory with an unassisted goal in the 89th minute of the game.
“The two goals scored in the second half prove that when we make a good work effort, we can challenge any team,” said junior Sarah Sereno.
The whole team pulled together and defended their net, not letting the Cumberlands score a goal in the entire game.
“Coach has been talking about our work as a team, and we finally put in a full team effort to get a result,” said sophomore Stephanie Junkin.
The Buffs’ win improves their overall record to 10-6, and they remain 5-2 in the conference. The Lady Buffs play Virginia Intermont College at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
